This custom made switched mode power supply is designed to
supply a special compact size coffee
dispenser for the professional market. Besides operating 24/7 , the application is characterised by high power demands for only a short period of time.

These peak load current demands caused by motors, valves and electromagnetic relays have a significant impact on the design of the PSU. In order to ensure an optimum reliability, the PSU has to be able to cope with these currents.

Model description:

The power supply converter circuitry is based on the flyback principle.
This cost effective topology provides a high efficiency and very compact dimensions.

In this particular application, the main output is used to supply the peltier element that cools the coffee extract.

The second ( 5V ) output is used to supply the digital control electronics. The third and fourth output supplies relays, valves, motors and the coffee dosing coils.

Mechanical construction:

The power supply is built as an open frame unit with a special shaped Printed Circuit Board. Due to notches in the dispenser’s plastic housing, the unit can be placed and fixated in vertical position. The power supply is capable of operating with limited air convection.
