Power Supply Application:
This custom made uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is designed to supply the electronics and electro mechanical parts in artificial respiration equipment for patients at home. Besides operating continuously, the application demands a battery charge functionality and a low standby power.
Model Description:
The power supply has three different types of converters:
- A single-ended feed-forward topology based main converter circuitry.
- A push-pull boost converter, which supplies the main converter during battery or external DC operation.
- A buck converter, which charges the system battery when AC mains is present.
Microcontroller:
The switch-over behaviour between the different converters is realized by the use of a microcontroller, which is also responsible for all on-board protection settings. The PSU features an integrated remote on/off functionality and a TTL compatible power-fail signal.

Mechanical construction:
The power supply has an open frame construction with very small heatsinks. This construction will provide sufficient cooling by means of free convection of air. This is also the case with an elevated ambient temperature. The special PCB design is necessary for the UPS to be able to fit into the customer’s enclosed housing.
